A Performance about the State and Connections of the Ocean
THE SEA HOTEL is a site-specific immersive performance. It plays with the construction of a luxury hotel to create new and deep connections to the ocean. As a participant, you check in at the reception, where you receive information about your stay which could include the Ocean Spa and the Contemporary Seafood Restaurant. Participants will be guided by performers on a journey through these different tableaux based on both sensoric experiences and scientific facts. THE SEA HOTEL comments playfully on humanity’s superficiality and examines how we can deepen our relationship with the ocean as a living organism.
In the spring of 2024 6 artists from 6 different European islands explored the condition of the sea on Bornholm, a Danish island placed in the Baltic Sea where the decay and destruction of the sea has become more and more visible, the fishing industry has died with the fish and have raised consciousness on the effects on human activity. Together the artists examined what art can do to address the issues of the sea, how we can make it’s poisoned state visible and convey it through emotional and sensory means. In the hope that we act to protect the sea before it is too late.
